VI.6 The Flight of a Golf Ball

چکیده

In a natural environment, insects are constantly being knocked about by wind or visual and mechanical perturbations. And yet they appear to be unperturbed and are able to correct their course with ease. The halteres, mentioned earlier, provide a fast gyroscopic sensor that enables a fruit fly to keep track of its angular rotational rate. Recent work has found that when a fruit fly’s body orientation is perturbed with a torque impulse, it automatically adjusts its wing motion to create a corrective torque. If the perturbation is small, the correction is almost perfect. Exactly how their brains orchestrate this is a question for neural science as well as for mathematical modeling of the whole organism. By examining how insects turn and respond to external perturbations, we can begin to learn about their thoughts.

Automatic Golf Ball Trajectory Reconstruction and Visualization

The article presents the steps required to reconstruct a 3D trajectory of a golf ball flight, bounces and roll in short game. Two video cameras were used to capture the last parts of the trajectories including the bounces and roll. Each video sequence is processed and the ball is detected and tracked until is stops. Detected positions from both video sequences are then matched and 3D trajectory...

The flight of a golf ball

A skilled golfer hitting a drive can accelerate his club head from zero to 120 miles per hour in the quarter of a second before making contact with the ball. As a result, the ball leaves the tee with a typical speed of 175 miles per hour and at an angle of 11◦ to the ground. From that moment the golfer no longer exercises control. The trajectory of the ball is determined by the laws of physics....

Layered stimulus response training improves motor imagery ability and movement execution.

This study aimed to test Lang's bioinformational theory by comparing the effects of layered stimulus and response training (LSRT) with imagery practice on improvements in imagery ability and performance of a motor skill (golf putting) in 24 novices (age, M = 20.13 years; SD = 1.65; 12 female) low in imagery ability. Participants were randomly assigned to a LSRT (introducing stimulus and respons...

A Neurosurgical Golf Injury

Introduction Being one of the few activities that people of all ages and skill level can play, golf has increased in popularity. Consequently golf-related injuries have been notably increasing over the past few years. This particularly occurs in the paediatric age group.1 Head injury in this sport is most likely to be caused by golf clubs, however there have been reported cases in the literatur...

Effects of special composite stretching on the swing of amateur golf players

[Purpose] The study investigated stretching for safer a golf swing compared to present stretching methods for proper swings in order to examine the effects of stretching exercises on golf swings. [Subjects] The subjects were 20 amateur golf club members who were divided into two groups: an experimental group which performed stretching, and a control group which did not. The subjects had no bone...
